Mini-lecture on general issues instructor is finding in papers.

You will  be using these papers as the basis for presentations, which will begin in class thirty-six. These presentations will require PowerPoints, and will be ten minutes long. Papers will be collected after the presentation, and the presentation and the PowerPoint will be evaluated separately.

Discussion of findings on the themes of Maggie.

Introduce the concept of motif, which is related to theme.

In-class journaling:

Identify motifs in first half of Maggie  (20 mins)

Homework:

Re-read: second half of Maggie. Identify motifs and explain their importance in terms of how they inform our understanding of character, setting, plot, point-of-view, ect.

Begin work on presentations.
