Groups Work:

Groups are individually assigned one of the stories we have read this semester. They are charged with articulating a theme, or noting possible themes in the story. They must back up their claims with evidence drawn from observations of character, setting, plot…ect.

Class Discussion of group findings.

In-class journaling:

How can an understanding of theme help expand your appreciation for a specific story that we have read this semester?

Homework:

Re-Read the first half of Maggie: Girl of the Streets.

Write: 1 page explanation of what, if any, themes you are picking up on in this story now that we have discussed this concept. How does an awareness of these subjects change your understanding of the text?
